BUGA05 Flower Show
- Munich
July 4
Rule #1 in Europe: Museums are closed on Mondays. Not only that, many breweries and gasthauses are closed one day a week and Monday is often that day.
So we're sitting in the outskirts of Munich on a Monday when there's going to be late afternoon rain. First we sleep in. Then we hit a brewpub for lunch (Flieger Brau). Then Terry takes off for a flower show in the area. A BIG flower show. Ads for it have been all over town. 14€ to get in. Of course she took the camera. Of course she really enjoyed herself. She'll tell it from here.

This was one mammoth flower show. It covered acres and acres of land. There were even cable cars to take people to the other side. I spent about 2 1/2 hours there and didn't get to see nearly all of it. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed the flowers.

Not many people were in evidence on this Monday.
The show runs from April into mid October.

Most of the flower beds were separated by gravel.
At least 20 different beds in this area..

The tents are fairly permanent, made out of wood.
They had displays (in German of course) and venders
selling anything and everything related to flowers and plants.

I really love the dahlias.

Some pavilions similar to greenhouses held more tropical flowers and displays. Never did see an orchid though.

Notice the trellis with the climbing vines.

Yes all the signs are in German but a lot of the flowers have the same names.

Interesting ways to design your patio or garden.
A large area held a dozen concrete "cells" with more whimsy such as a maze. They were separated by fields of tiny yellow wildflowers.

Spring-loaded kid-sized 1:1 scale foosball.

A giant bird's nest.

A bamboo pathway.

And it' wouldn't be Germany without a biergarten.
But flowers were the main course and here's some to feast on. And please remember these aren't Bob's pictures. They're Terry's.

A tiny wildflower from the field.

Yes, another picture of my favorite dahlia.

Don't know what this one is. I just liked it.

Most of the roses were past their bloom but couldn't resist this one.
